Asked a date to the sadies dance, but things are kind of awkward. what should i do?

so this guy and I, we went to winterball together, and he was an okay dancer. It was more just like hugging and swaying it was kind of awkward. this weekend is our sadies dance and I really want to have a good time. This week after I asked him things have been awkward but not too much. He's a little bit awkward around girls and I really want a fun and awkward free night. I hope tomrrow will spark something to get out of the "just friends" mode. What should I do during the dance to make sure he's having a good time? and how should we dance?
